How it is drawn

Not an illustration.
A record.

Every line is one aircraft, picked up by volunteer ADS-B receivers as it left the runway. Nothing is smoothed or invented: where the line bends, the aircraft turned.

We hold a year of the world's flights and check every airport, every day, for gaps in what the receivers saw. We only print the days we saw in full.
